Famous around the world, the Kingdom of Edo bronzes are cast in wax molds destroyed release (Technique called the "lost wax"). This work begins with the modeling of a wax sculpture, then we mold the wax carefully the coating of a refractory material: The Banko. After drying, the whole is heated, the wax melts and flows through the "lack" of the mold that has been planned and built for this purpose. The timing, vacuum wax mold is filled with molten metal. Wax and bronze transformation is complete. After solidification and cooling of bronze (brass by Western standards), it breaks the mold to remove the sculpture. Following a long and delicate finish work ...

 

 Each piece is unique! 

 

This bronze plaque (Rather here, according to our criteria, brass probably obtained based recycled materials), performed according to the technique described above is representative of the art of Edo in the old Empire Benin.

 

 It measures 17.5 cm high and 12 cm wide

 

 These plates were designed to be seen as tables with images of the king and his entourage
