Famous in the world, the United African bronzes of Ife are cast in molds destroyed wax release (Technique called the "lost wax"). This work begins with the molding of a wax sculpture; then molding the wax in the coating of a refractory material carefully: The Banko. After drying, the whole is heated, the wax melts and flows through the "lack" of the mold that has been planned and developed for this purpose. At the right time, the empty mold wax is filled with liquid metal. The transformation is complete wax and bronze. After solidification and cooling of bronze (brass by Western standards), it breaks the mold in order to extract the sculpture. Following a long and delicate finish work ...

This ancient African head, hand made using this technique, is typical of the Kingdom of Ife in NigeriaIt measures 13.5 cm high.

 

These miniature heads have been the use of the young princes.
