Magnificent wooden African statuette, in patina ochre, typical crusty of the ethnic group Misogho of the Gabon.
Height : 57 cm, unstable (narrow and "eaten away" base).
The social cohesion of the tribe is assured by the company Bwiti; the initiiation to this society includes the use of hallucinogenic plants and the explanation of the sense of certain sacred objects such as these statuettes which are placed in called baskets bumba bwiti with the bones of the ancestors and the other magic substances. Sculptured by initiated, these statuettes have therapeutic powers but also act as guards of reliquaries, a tradition was found to Fang and nearby Kota.
